Galatians 3:13-14.. "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree'—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.'"

Around two thousand of years before Christ came to the earth, God made a promise to Abraham that "in you [that is, Abraham] all the families on the earth shall be blessed" (Genesis 12:3). Christ, in his coming, fulfilled this very prophesy, which is what we will look at today.

What does it mean that Abraham was going to be a blessing to all of the nations? Well, let us seek scripture to find out. A few verses before the ones quoted above, we find these wonderful words:

Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed." (Gal. 3:7-8).

The way in which Abraham blessed all of the nations of the earth was by offering salvation to all of the earth through Abraham's offspring, namely Jesus. In other words, God's promise of Christ reached all the way back to Abraham (and in fact, even farther back than that). Christ, in the divine plan of God, came to fulfill this very prophesy, which is something that we ought not to overlook this Chirstmas season.

We have already seen that Christ is a Redeemer to his people, and a Visitor to his people. Today, we find the glorioius truth that he is also the Fulfiller of the prophesy to his people. What hope can be found here? As you reflect on the fact that Christ came to fulfill prophesy that was given around two thousands of years before his coming, how can you praise God for his sovereign plan? Furthermore, how can you worship God even more by realizing that he has sent Christ in order that the promises of Abraham could extend to you and me as Gentiles? Amen!
