Romans 1:1

"Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus..."

Where do you find your identity? Do you find it in your job? In your family? In your friends? In your future? In your past? For Paul, his identity was found in his relationship to his God. When he introduces himself in the book of Romans, he identifies himself first and foremost as "a servant of Christ Jesus." For Paul, there was nothing better that identified him than the fact that he was a servant of the One True King. He cared way more about his spiritual position than his job, social life, or past experiences. For Paul, nothing identified him but the fact that he was a servant of the Lord Most High.

What about you? Where do you find your identity? If you don't find it in your relationship to God as Paul did, I would encourage you that you are placing your identity in the wrong spot. Find your identity, the very nature of who you are, not in your job, your family, your friends, your future, or your past, but rather find it in a loving God who has called you His own.
