"I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me." Proverbs 8:17

When's the last time you sought something with wholehearted devotion? Perhaps it was a guy or a girl you had a crush on [y'all know you've been there, c'mon.]. Perhaps it was an A on an exam. Perhaps it was a college acceptance letter. Perhaps it was God! Whatever the case may be, when is the last time you pursued wisdom with that kind of devotion?

Proverbs 8:17 tells us that all those who seek wisdom diligently will find it. This is a great, convicting statement that allows us to analyze our own hearts to see if we are truly seeking wisdom as much as we should be. If there is one thing that we can discern from the first eight chapters of Proverbs, it is that wisdom has great value. This, therefore, leads us to a great question to ask ourselves of if we are seeking wisdom or not. If wisdom is more valuable than silver or gold, how are we doing at looking for it? Surely we ought to diligently seek for wisdom.

But how do we diligently seek wisdom? Honestly, I find myself asking the same question this morning. However, I feel as if there are at least a few concrete ways that we can do so:

  1. Read the Bible. The Bible is God's wisdom written down. Furthermore, through the Bible we learn about Jesus Christ, who is wisdom incarnate.

  2. Pray for Wisdom. James tells us that all who ask for wisdom will be given it by God if he asks for it without doubting (James 1:5-6).

  3. Seek Christian Mentors. Peter had Jesus. Timothy had Paul. There is a biblical foundation for mentorship that provides wisdom for a younger generation.

There are perhaps many more than these three ways in which we can seek wisdom diligently, but let me ask you a question: how may of those three have you fulfilled? Let me encourage you that if you have left one of those untouched, you are not seeking wisdom as diligently as you could be, and this, perhaps, is the reason that you have not found it. So, dear brother and sister, seek wisdom diligently, that it might be given to you. Amen.
