Weekly Update: Socials and Syllabi, OH MY!

Yup. Last week can be summed up into two words: socials and syllabi. I got together with a bunch of friends who I haven't seen in two months and went through a bunch of syllabi. It was an exciting week of being back at school with fun and friends, but nonetheless taxing as the semester is now underway.
Transitions have been pretty good. First semester was certainly a lot harder because everything is new, but this semester hasn't been too bad. I already have a great friend group, a "home" church, and normal routines. Although there's certainly a lot of adjusting, it is worlds better than last semester. I've truly been doing great since I've been back. I certainly miss home, but who doesn't? Nonetheless, I've been able to cast that anxiety upon the Lord because he cares for me (1 Peter 5:7).
As I already said, most of last week was just class introductions and syllabi, so I didn't start learning too much. However, in psychology we talked about how "every pedagogy has an underlying philosophical anthropology," which is a fancy way of saying that the way in which you teach people depends upon what you believe human beings are (James K. A. Smith). We discussed how human beings are thinking, feeling, and doing creatures (head, heart, and hands) and that although psychology is primarily about the "thinking" aspect, we must remember than human beings are much more than merely their brains.
Prayer Requests..
Contentment. This first week of college has reopened my mind to how big God is and how big his world is. There is so much I want to learn and so much I want to do, but I can't do it all. Pray than I might be content with this.
Academic Strength. This week and following are going to be extremely strenuous academically--my classes this semester are not easy. Pray that I might have strength amidst all my studies, that I might learn more about God and is world.
Starfish. Also known as outreach opportunities.
I apologize for the brief update this morning (although I'm sure many of you are delighted with the brevity!). Truly, there is not all that much to tell, and I've got a busy day! Know that I'm praying for many of you.
Peace be with you,
Matthew R. Quick
